Frannie Shoemaker and the gang are visiting Old Dam Trail State Park which happened to be near the hometown for one of the company's woman Donna Nowak. Her brief stay with her foster parents was not happy, but the place is nice (and haunted by the Lady of the Lake according to the local legend) so she convinced the rest of the people to come. Where Frannie goes, murder usually follows and this time it is still the case, but the primary suspect is one of their own. Frannie to the rescue!I found this book to be slower than what I usually expect from the series. To my complete surprise Frannie remains passive through most part of the book despite this time it is personal for her and this does not fit her at all. She just goes sightseeing, shopping and occasionally stumbles upon the clues by pure accident. In short the whole setup does not feel like usual meddling Scooby-Doo kids and it makes up for slow book.On the positive side, the camping tips are very good and practical and quite a few of them can be applied for everyday life - not just camping. Another point about the series I always value high is that almost all of the recurring characters are past their retirement age. Old people are still people and they also have excitement in their lives as demonstrated by the merry gang, but there is no possibility of dreadful love triangles which leaves more space for interesting developments.There was also some interesting information related to camping which I grew accustomed to expect from the series. This time I was fascinated to learn about real life Sisters on the Fly which seems to be a really cool group of women doing cool stuff.3 very solid stars for the fourth installment of the series; will read the next book.

A plot that kept my interest. Saying that, this moved a bit more slowly than the other books in the series. Frannie was less assertive in approach this time around. The mystery played itself out to reveal the solution.Who was your favorite character and why?Frannie. Everything in the book and the series revolves around Frannie. She is a murder magnet! Thus the review title. A good thing!Which character – as performed by Michelle Babb – was your favorite?I look at the whole product. The interaction, the cadences of the action. Michelle Babb's did well! There is enough down to earth variation to distinguish between characters.If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?Even camping locally has its mysteries!Any additional comments?I have enjoyed each entree in this series. Lady of the Lake is the 4th book in the Frannie Shoemaker Campground Mystery Series. In this book, Frannie, her husband Lanny, and two other couples (Donna and Rob Nowak and Jane Ann and Mickey Ferraro) go camping together at Old Dam Trail State Park. Since Donna lived in the area as a teenager, she is acting as tour guide, showing off her old hangouts and reminiscing of younger days. During their visit, they come across Donna’s foster parents, Donna’s high school friend Janet, and her husband Bill, a mystery author Rosemari, and a few other quirky characters. When a body is found floating in the lake, Donna becomes a person of interest. With their friend’s freedom being at risk, Frannie can’t help but launch her own investigation. Will Frannie and the rest be able to find out who is the murder without putting themselves in danger?This is the first book I have read by author Karen Musser Nortman, so I can not compare this book to the earlier books in the series. Even though I haven’t read the previous books I was able to follow the storyline easily. I really enjoyed the couples and their joking comfortable nature with one another. The story felt realistic, characters were well developed, there were enough red herrings and intrigue to keep you interested in the story, and there was a steady pace to the storyline. True to the cozy genre because there is no bad language, graphic violence, or sexual content.I also listened to the audiobook version and the narrator, Michelle Babb, did a wonderful job with the voices. She did a delightful job portraying the characters, and I enjoyed her performance very much. I would recommend this book and will definitely read more books in this series.
1) Why I chose this book : Really enjoy these campground themed mysteries (author definitely knows ins-and-outs of RV camping)2) Any course language present : Just a handful of the words dam* and hel* and nothing more making it a cozy on my book3) Type of book : Lite mystery/suspense with likable characters4) Formatting/Editing : Well done5) Best/Worst aspect of book : Quick, engaging read complete with a ghostly legend, a haunted lake, floating body and some humorous dialogue.6) Favorite Passage : "Sometimes good friends take a little more work."7) Bottom-line : Am enjoying this author and already have "Trailer, Get Your Kicks!" purchased for my next read.
