As a beginner's guide to DBT, it is very well written and gets the basic points down in a gentle and understanding manner. The lessons and structure of DBT is absent; there is only the base idea beneath the situations. In short it is essentially a guidebook, and one well done.I sent a friend a copy and have one of my own. I'm also in the process of undergoing DBT in a group setting, and although I can't flip to a corresponding page to what we're doing, I can happily sit down with this book over a weekend and come away from it understanding the concepts and applications well.
Very informative book and well written. I gained a lot of knowledge, but it’s important to internalize what you read. I have BPD and I got this book for myself and it wasn’t what I needed, but it was a good read and an easy one too.
Chapter I - Mindfulness has been very helpful to me. Basically, it is developing the skill of paying attention to the moment. That skill helps me to enjoy the moment instead of worrying or thinking of something else. Mindfulness has helped me to be calmer and has, also, improved my memory.
This is a great little book to explain the tenants of DBT. It goes into more detail than the DBT Skills manual and does a decent job of explaining how to use the skills in daily life. Worth reading multiple times!
