Best programming book I have ever read! (entertaining)I skim through the stuff I already know not to confuse myself.The book covers Dynamic Metaprogramming. My interest with it is Static Metaprogramming in other languages. My favorite part right now is defining dynamic_methods, (52). Which I have a preference to over overriding missing method.Because the book has pair programming with a theoretical beginner. It contains fun things to share with the junior devs that I work with who are not reading the book.What I find most fun about this book is when it lets you be more creative with the code.ruby is my go to language to discover if it is possible to get a computer to do a thing.1) object-oriented2) functional,3) imperative,4) can be programmed declarative5) (class-based), metaprogrammingI will try to achieve something in ruby. and after discovering if possible, only then attempt to implement it in another language.
This is my favorite programming book. Picked up the 2nd addition years after reading the 1st and am pleased with the updates (and design changes)
This is a great book for gaining a deeper knowledge of Ruby and programming in general. It's also great for getting a look into how Rails works on the inside. If you've already gone through a couple Rails tutorials then this book is a great next step.
Incredible book! I have dozens of Ruby books and this is the most advanced one I own. It approaches very senior topics from a dialogue between a junior/senior developer mentoring relationship. Reading this book made me a better programmer and an expert Rubyist.
Well written
It's deep. A lot of material on how Ruby works under the covers. Could use a couple of real world sustained examples, but I'm only half way through it so maybe it will get there.
I got this book and gave it as a Christmas gift. I had to get a secret Santa give and the person who received it was super excited to get it.
