This a review of the Absolute Edition. Not of the story (which is awesome).There was a time when DC's Absolute Editions were a prestige format. It was huge, with thick paper, extras especially produced for the edition, faux-leather covers and details such as metallic inks, rice paper, and embossed or debossed images. That time is long gone. Now, Absolute Editions are just very big books with thick paper. And that's it. No detail whatsoever to make this book stand-out, except for its size. The only thing especially produced for this edition are the illustrations in the slipcase. On the book itself, it has the same cover as #1, but art reproduction at this size is really bad, and the image seriously pixelates. And, sadly, the same happens with a lot of pages from the first issues.And I just hate it that they haven't used the original logo anywhere in the whole book. The fonts and trade-dressing feel extremely generic to me. It clearly takes away a lot of the personality that the original issues and trades transmitted from the very title of the book.
This is the most beautiful Hard Back graphic Novel I've ever seen. It came shipped in a solid cardboard holder, along with the safe packing. And it comes in a hard cardstock cover, instead of a flimsy sleave cover for the book. Its full gloss, nearly the size of an Artist's rendition (which is the scale the artist uses to draw). Its basically 480p vs 4k. The old graphic novels are so bland in comparison. The colors alone are worth it. One of my girlfriends favorite gifts ever. Id pay $100 for this. Its the size of the bible.
Picked up Absolute Transmet vol. 1 because it was on-sale, and all of my buddies were recommending it, having never read it myself. Got my copy, cracked it open, and all of a sudden I found myself coming-to eight hours later, staring at the back cover, screaming for more comics. Needless to say, Vol. 2 is in the mail.
My only complaint is that I don't have a shelf tall enough to fit this beautifully made, hardcover monolith standing up, but that's more of an issue with my furniture than the book itself.
Ellis begins his magnum opus. Prophetic for its time, scarily becoming reality today.

Big, beautiful, vibrant collection with much to offer fans. Looking forward to the third volume's release.
